Getting brochures printed will give you one of the most useful and successful marketing tools. Forget technology for a second; brochures create engagement touchpoints and remain just as relevant as ever. Brochures not only introduce your company to your customers, highlighting features and informing them of the details of your product or service; it also encourages dialogue based on the wealth of information it holds.

PLANNING YOUR BROCHURE

If you’re able to design your own brochure, great! But if you have a vision but can’t do it on your own, consider working with a designer or writer.

 

Make sure to draft a creative brief before they get started. This will give your creatives everything they need so that you are on the same page. Typically, a creative brief would cover:

 

    • Outline/Overview – This is a thumbnail sketch of the detailed information you will include in the other sections.

 

    • Purpose – What are you trying to achieve with your brochure? What do you want your customers to do?

 

    • Customers/Target Audience – Who are you talking to? What is the single most important idea that you need to communicate? What supporting information is available that can be used to convince customers to take action?

 

  • References – This typically includes company brand guidelines, your website address, and contact details. You can also include competitor brochures and marketing collateral.

 

BROCHURE COPYWRITING

It makes sense to write content for the brochure yourself. But if you’re looking to get an extra boost, consider getting a professional to edit and make finishing touches to it. A good copywriter will tidy up the grammar to make it a smoother read:

 

    • Brochures are sales tools. Whatever information put place in it must be clear, concise, and persuasive. Consider how your customers speak, utilize the language and buzz words familiar to them.

 

    • Always include a call to action. Potential customers will not know what you want them to do next unless you tell them.

 

BROCHURE DESIGN

Design and presentation will determine whether your customer connects with your brand or not:

 

    • Collect as many brochures as you can (these can be from your competitors, other industries, or even from online portfolio sites like behance.com) and take notes on what designs you like and what could work for your company.

 

  • After looking at what others have done and assessing the needs of your business, prepare a detailed brief for your designer. This will minimize unproductive client/designer conversations involving vague adjectives and will save you heaps of time and effort.

 

TESTING

Even with all that planning and design research and preparation, it is always good to take a step back and see if what you produced was what your customer needed to see:

 

    • Use printed and/or online surveys to ask customers for feedback. Armed with this feedback and the experience of your first brochure run…

 

  • Refine and make your brochure even better for the next run!

  • Spell-check, and proofread everything.
  • Set all your images, objects, and the document’s colour mode to CMYK.
  • Check that the document size fits our listed specifications. NOTE: If you are unsure, please use our provided templates.
  • Do not include printer’s crop marks or registration marks in your PDF export.
  • Outline all fonts.
  • If you use a bleed, make sure your file has the correct bleed settings. NOTE: Please use our templates to ensure proper bleed settings.
